With Bane at the helm, Trader Joe’s ranked No. 25 on Supermarket News’ Top 50 food and grocery retailers by sales for fiscal years 2021-22, posting an estimated $16.1 billion in revenue, up from $16.5 billion in 2020-21. The company operates about 560 stores, a handful of which are unionized. The chain is investing $260 million to construct a 1 million-square-foot distribution center in Kentucky. Bane joined the company in 1998 as president of Trader Joe’s West. He was made chief executive and chairman in 2001 and helped develop the grocer into the largest private company in Los Angeles County with approximately 50,000 employees. Bane received a bachelor’s degree in 1969 from USC.
