Founder, Chief Executive, Platinum Equity
Gores founded Platinum Equity in 1995, and it has grown into the fifth
largest private equity firm in Los Angeles, with approximately $36 billion
in assets under management. Gores, who owns the Detroit Pistons,
has an estimated net worth of $6.8 billion and was No. 11 on the
Business Journal’s 2022 list of Wealthiest Angelenos. Notable acquisitions
include the $4.2 billion buyout of Spanish environmental services
provider Urbaser and the $4.5 billion buyout of educational content
publisher McGraw Hill. Platinum also acquired Pelican Products, the
Torrance-based maker of high-performance protective cases. Gores
and his brother Alec were part of a bidding group last year that unsuccessfully
attempted to purchase the Denver Broncos.
