In addition to co-founding PayPal Holdings, Thiel has invested in many
of Silicon Valley’s most successful startups, including LinkedIn and
Yelp. He was the first outside investor in Facebook Inc. and famously
paid $500,000 for a 10% stake in the company in 2004 and sold most
of that stake for $1 billion in 2012. Thiel has an estimated net worth of
$7 billion and was No. 10 on the Business Journal’s 2022 list of Wealthiest
Angelenos. Thiel is also a partner at Founders Fund, a Silicon Valley
venture capital firm that has funded companies including SpaceX and
Airbnb and started the Thiel Fellowship to fund young entrepreneurs.
