Gores founded Platinum Equity in 1995, and it has grown into one of the largest private equity firms in Los Angeles, with approximately $36 billion in assets undermanagement. Gores has an estimated net worth of $6.5 billion and was No. 12 on the Business Journal’s 2021 list of Wealthiest Angelenos. Over the last year, Platinum Equity has executed 71 buy and sell-side deals. Notable acquisitions include the $4.2 billion buyout of Spanish environmental services provider Urbaser and the $4.5 billion buyout of educational content publisher McGraw Hill. Platinum also acquired Pelican Products, the Torrance-based maker of high-performance protective cases.
