Her tenure was marked by pragmatic leadership for the 160,000-member union of performers. Besides traditional union functions, hot button issues are labor-force diversity and online influencers poised to become a new wave of members. Elected by members, Carteris is a working actress who starred on “Beverly Hills 90210” and whose tenure as president spanned 2016 to 2021. Fran Drescher succeeded Carteris, who endorsed Drescher. At about the same time, Carteris became the first American to head the 65-country International Federation of Actors.
