Citigroup Donates $3.5 Million to L.A. Organizations

The foundation arm of Citigroup Inc. announced April 26 that it will give $500,000 each to seven different Los Angeles non-profits in order to address various urban economic challenges.

New York City-based Citi Foundation said that it will give the contributions to Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation; East LA Community Corporation; Homeboy Industries; Koreatown Youth & Community Center; LISC Los Angeles (Local Initiatives Support Corp.); Los Angeles LGBT Center; and United Way of Greater Los Angeles.

LAEDC stated that it will use the money for the Propel LA project, a five-year countywide strategic plan to confront unemployment, poverty and income disparities.

L.A. was one of six cities that Citi Foundation selected for the grants, along with New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., Miami and San Francisco. The Foundation donated $20 million in total, according to the announcement.
