The Port of Los Angeles on Friday released the names of eight developers that have expressed interested in redeveloping San Pedro’s Ports O’Call Village, a restaurant and retail development owned by the Port of Los Angeles. Ed Roski’s Majestic Realty Co., which hopes to lure an NFL franchise to City of Industry, is on the list.
The port issued a request for qualifications this summer, looking for a company that will bring a fresh look and more tourists to Ports O’Call. Responses were due Oct. 5.
In addition to Magestic, which is based in Industry, developers that submitted responses were Cal-Coast Companies in Los Angeles, Rising Realty Partners in Los Angeles, Battaglia Inc. in Newport Beach, McArthurGlen Group in London, Sonnenblick Development LLC in Pacific Palisades, Strata Properties in Newport Beach and LA Waterfront Alliance, an entity likely set up specifically to bid on the Ports O’Call project.
The port released the list of potential developers in response to requests from the Business Journal and other publications. Only the names of the developers were provided without details of their submissions.
A committee of port staff and redevelopment experts will review companies’ qualifications and recommend one company to the Harbor Commission, likely by the end of the year. Port officials hope to lease 30 acres of waterfront property to the chosen developer, who will be able to build up to 300,000 square feet of restaurants, shops and other attractions on the site.
The project is similar in size to the redevelopment of the Redondo Beach pier. Both Rising Realty and Cal-Coast bid on that project as well. Rising since pulled out because of financing and personnel issues and Cal-Coast was not selected by Redondo Beach officials as a finalist for the project.
