An undercover operation led by state investigators led to the arrest of a Los Angeles man and the confiscation of $300,000 worth of counterfeit Gucci, Dior, and Prada sunglasses, among other high-end brands, officials said Monday.

The confiscation was one of the largest seizures of its kind in California in the last few years, officials said.

The investigation, by California’s Tax Recovery and Criminal Enforcement Task Force, led to the arrest of 34-year-old Armando Robledo on five felony counts of counterfeiting.

Working with Investigative Consultants, a private investigation company, undercover task force members bought counterfeit watches from Robledo with a total retail value of more than $100,000, officials said. In October, the task force and the Los Angeles Police Department searched Robledo’s business and nearby storage locker in downtown L.A.’s Santee Alley, finding a locker filled with an estimated $300,000 worth of fake sunglasses, which were confiscated as evidence.

The LAPD’s piracy unit arrested Robledo in late November. He was booked into the Los Angeles County Jail, where he posted $50,000 bail. Robledo is ordered to appear in Sacramento County Court this month, with Deputy Attorney General Peter Williams leading the prosecution.
