Fuji Food Products Inc., a Santa Fe Springs company that makes packaged sushi, said Wednesday it is opening a new manufacturing plant in the Chicago suburbs.
The 40,000-square foot plant in South Elgin, Ill., will be ready to produce and distribute fresh, refrigerated and ready-to-eat meals starting next month. The new plant will be the company’s third facility.
Fuji’s offerings include green, grain and noodle salads, fresh seafood salads, sushi and vegetarian burgers. The company sells nationally to more than 6,000 convenience stores, airports, supermarkets and club chains across 45 states.
Founded in 1990 in San Diego, the company is a division of Downey’s Meruelo Group. Fuji calls itself the nation’s largest provider and distributor of pre-packaged sushi.
