Erewhon will return to Pacific Palisades.
The downtown family-owned lifestyle and organic grocer will reopen as the anchor tenant at Caruso’s Palisades Village, the Fairfax-based real estate developer announced late last month.
The fully reimagined high-end grocer is slated to reopen its Palisades store in August alongside the Village, which sustained some minor damage during the January 2025 wildfires that devastated much of the surrounding Palisades community.
For residents and businesses alike, the announcement signaled more than the return of a popular retailer. It represented a tangible step forward in the broader economic and emotional recovery of Palisades, where rebuilding efforts have progressed unevenly over the past year.
“We’re honored to join the incredible effort underway at Palisades Village,” said Tony Antoci, Erewhon’s chief executive. “Our team believes deeply in showing up for our communities, and reopening is a meaningful way for us to contribute to the healing and renewal of this neighborhood.”
Caruso framed Erewhon’s return as a cornerstone of the Village’s revival strategy, first announced this past summer.
In addition to the Erewhon, the developer plans to roll out an expanded mix of dining
and retail. That includes the opening of Spacca Tutto, a new Italian American steakhouse developed in partnership with Newport Beach-based River Jetty Restaurant Group and four-time James Beard Award-winning chef Nancy Silverton.
Fashion designer Elyse Walker is also slated to return in August as the flagship luxury retailer, relocating to a 5,000-square-foot space, at the Village.
“Bringing Erewhon back to Palisades Village is a major step forward for the entire community,” said Jackie Levy, Caruso’s chief revenue and financial officer. “We are committed to rebuilding not just the property, but the spirit and long-term health of the Palisades community we’re proud to serve.”
The Village, which first opened in 2018, is among several of Caruso’s developments including its flagship The Grove LA in Fairfax and The Americana at Brand in Glendale.
From the ground up
Construction at the Village is already underway. The new Erewhon, serving as the anchor grocer, café and tonic bar, will be built from the ground up. It will feature a completely redesigned interior and an expanded patio aimed at bolstering its outdoor dining options.
Erewhon’s recommitment to Palisades comes amid its broader expansion phase. The grocer plans to open a location in West Hollywood in February, in Glendale in May and at Caruso’s The Lakes at Thousand Oaks in July.
The grocer traces its roots back to 1966, when it was founded by natural foods pioneers Michio and Aveline Kushi as a Boston-based macrobiotic and certified-organic health food store – with its store name an anagram of the word “nowhere.”
The store chain eventually made its way to L.A., changing ownership several times before the Antoci family acquired it in 2011 and transformed it into a luxury hotspot, particularly among Hollywood’s A-listers. Singer Christina Aguilera recently collaborated with the grocer to launch a limited-edition smoothie during the holiday season.
The chain now has 10 locations across Los Angeles, including Culver City, Beverly Hills, Studio City, Silver Lake, Santa Monica, Venice, Calabasas, Fairfax, Pasadena and Manhattan Beach.
