Tuesday Rundown: Cherokee Expands European Distribution, Ceres Soars on License Agreement

Cherokee Global Brands announced Tuesday it had entered into a license agreement to expand its European distribution.

The Sherman Oaks apparel brand marketer signed a deal with Netherlands-based Saborn Licensing Co. B.V. to manufacture and distribute Cherokee branded apparel throughout Western and Central Europe. The agreement will give Saborn the rights to distribute men’s, women’s and children’s apparel in addition to an assortment of accessories at department stores and specialty shops throughout Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and some Scandinavian countries.

The products are expected to launch in 2016.

Cherokee has license agreements with more than 7,000 manufacturers and retailers in 50 countries. The company manages a portfolio of fashion and lifestyle brands that include Tony Hawk, Liz Lange and Everyday California.

Shares closed up 79 cents or 5 percent to $16.40 on the Nasdaq.

Ceres Soars on License Agreement

Newbury Park agricultural biotech Ceres Inc. announced Tuesday that it struck a licensing agreement with KWS SAAT SE, a worldwide seed developer based in Germany.

Under the agreement, KWS will assess the company’s Persephone bioinformatics technology, a system that streamlines DNA-related information, helping to speed up biological research.

KWS has more than 1,000 employees involved in research.

Investors reacted positively to news of the agreement, driving up Ceres stock. Shares closed up 28 cents, or more than 27 percent, to $1.28 on the Nasdaq.
