American Apparel Inc. on Thursday said that John Luttrell has been hired as chief financial officer, taking over from Adrian Kowalewski, who will become executive vice president of corporate strategy starting Monday.
The Los Angeles apparel manufacturer and retailer announced the appointment in a regulatory filing. Luttrell, 56, has more 13 years of experience in retail. He most recently was a partner at CFOs 2 Go Partners, a management consulting firm, and earlier was CFO at Old Navy Inc., Wet Seal Inc. and Cost Plus Inc.
American Apparel and its Chief Executive Dov Charney have been under pressure to revamp management and improve financial controls as the company continues to suffer from an extended sales slump. In October, the company named Tom Casey, Blockbuster Video’s former chief financial officer, as acting president at the urging of American Apparel largest creditor, Lion Capital.
Prior to the announcement, shares closed up 1 cent, or less than a percent, to $1.06 on the New York Alternet.
