Paula Schneider, chief executive of American Apparel, will reportedly step down from her post next month less than two years after taking the job.

Schneider will depart on Oct. 3 and will be succeeded by Chelsea Grayson, American Apparel’s general counsel and chief administrative officer, according to Women’s Wear Daily, which first reported the news.

Grayson previously spent 16 years in private practice as a corporate attorney with the law firms Jones Day and Loeb & Loeb, where she was a partner in the mergers & acquisitions groups of both firms.

It’s been a bumpy ride of late for American Apparel as the company also lost Chairman Paul Charron, the former chief executive of Liz Claiborne Inc., who left in August, according to the report. Charron is to be replaced by Brad Scher, founder of New York consulting firm Ocean Ridge Cap Advisors.

The apparel manufacturer is also exploring a possible sale of all or parts of its business, according to reports.

Schneider replaced founder Dov Charney as chief executive, who was ousted by American Apparel’s board of directors and suspended as chief executive and president after investigations into alleged misconduct.

American Apparel did not immediately return a request for comment.
