Alliance Environmental Group to Reorganize Its Indoor Air Services

Alliance Environmental Group in Azusa is reshaping its portfolio of services.
The environmental remediation company bought a competitor in the Northwest last month and said by year’s end, it plans to merge three companies under its umbrella that specializes in improving indoor air quality.

Alliance acquired Thermatech Northwest Inc. in Lakewood, Wash., on undisclosed terms. Thermatech has 50 employees and specializes in mold remediation, lead paint and asbestos abatement, and health care infection controls.

“Acquiring a company or opening a division in the state of Washington has been on our radar for the past year,” Chief Executive Jeff McLean said in a statement, adding that the “strategic alignment” will enable Alliance to “expand across the West Coast.”

McLean and his brother Joe founded Alliance in 1995, offering asbestos removal services throughout Southern California. They added mold removal services in 1999 and expanded into Arizona in 2016 and Nevada in 2020. The company has 712 employees, performs about 25,000 assignments per month and has a fleet of more than 300 vehicles. It anticipates ending 2021 with about $100 million in revenue, according to the company.

In 2011, Alliance acquired Airtek Indoor Air Solutions, a San Diego-based firm that specialized in commercial and residential HVAC and air duct cleaning. It picked up Mintie Corp. in 2019, a Cypress Park-based company that provides HVAC system rehabilitation and maintenance, while its affiliate Mintie Technologies develops containment products for airborne particulates.

Carlsbad-based Coast Environmental joined the fold in February. The firm specializes in fire stopping, fire damper testing and repairs, containment for infection control, Kitchen Exhaust System cleaning, HVAC systems cleaning and refurbishment, and mold remediation.

Aside from Mintie Technologies, the three companies will merge and operate as Alliance IAQ & Life Safety Services starting in January. The new entity will continue to serve clients in the health care, hospitality, industrial, education, government, commercial, retail, residential and private sectors.

“Having the three companies come together makes strategic business sense,” Alliance co-founder Joe McLean said in a statement. “It allows us to better serve our customer segments with the added resources from a leadership and labor workforce perspective.”
