Douglas Emmett Inc. said that Dr. David T. Feinberg, chief executive of the UCLA Hospital System and associate vice chancellor of UCLA Health Sciences, has been elected to its board.

The Santa Monica real estate investment trust, said late Monday that UCLA Hospital System’s four hospitals consistently ranked among the very top in the nation, and that Feinberg has academic credentials in medicine, economics and business administration.

“David’s experience overseeing the UCLA Hospital System’s extensive real estate activities will be especially helpful, given the four medical office properties and many medical related tenants in our portfolio,” Chief Executive Jordan Kaplan said in a statement.

Shares on Tuesday were up 38 cents, or nearly 2 percent, to $20.37 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
