VALENCIA

Healthy Growth: U.S. HealthWorks Medical Group, a Valencia-based operator of occupational health care and urgent care medical centers, has been selected by the Defense Supply Center in Columbus, Ohio, to operate two on-site health centers for its more than 6,500 employees. The center is run by the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency, which supplies the military.

EXPOSITION PARK

Museum Facelift: California African American Museum in Exposition Park has named Minneapolis-based HGA Architects and Engineers executive architect and Huff + Gooden Architects of Charleston, S.C., lead design architect for the museum’s $67.3 million expansion and renovation project. The project will include 77,000 square feet of new construction and renovation of 26,000 square feet of space.

CHESTERFIELD SQUARE

Apartment Deal: Normandie 57th Street Properties LLC has purchased the 57th Street Apartments building for $1.2 million from 57th Street LLC. The property, at 1324 W. 57th St., in Chesterfield Square south of downtown Los Angeles, has 14 units and was built in 1960.

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

Moving In: Box Brothers Corp., a Woodland Hill-based chain of shipping and printing services stores, will open a store in downtown Los Angeles. The new location, in Rittenhouse Square at 3320 S. Central Ave., will be independently operated by Oday and Sons LLC.

Full Plate: Salata Inc., a Houston-based salad and salad wrap chain, has opened its first location outside Texas in downtown Los Angeles. The store, at 505 S. Flower St., is the chain’s 13th location.

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY

MISSION HILLS

Moving Forward: Ararat Home of Los Angeles Inc., an operator of care facilities in Mission Hills and Eagle Rock that cater to the Armenian community, is nearing completion on the first phase of a $10 million expansion that will add 58 beds to its Mission Hills location. The new 19,000-square-foot wing is scheduled to open in January 2013, when Ararat Home will close its Eagle Rock facility.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE

Lunch Service: Dole Food Co., the Westlake Village-based food industry giant, has donated salad bars to two Ventura County elementary schools, as part of Dole’s efforts to combat childhood obesity. Fred L. Williams School in Oxnard and Richard Bard School in Port Hueneme are receiving the salad bars.
