San Francisco snack food manufacturer Popchips Inc. will move its headquarters to Playa Vista next month.
The seven-year-old company, known for its low-fat “popped” potato snack, signed a six-year lease for about 7,500 square feet at Water’s Edge, 5510 Lincoln Blvd. in a deal estimated to be valued at more than $1.7 million.
The move will be an expansion for Popchips, which previously about 20 employees in about 4,000 square feet. The company expects its new office to accommodate between 40 and 50 employees, many of whom have already moved into temporary space in the Playa Vista building while construction is being completed on its newly leased space.
Marc Seguin, the company’s chief marketing officer, said the move to Los Angeles allowed it to bring its sales, marketing and finance staff closer to its Rancho Dominguez production facility.
“We wanted to have something that was centrally located and reasonably close to our operating facility in an area that would help us attract and retain talent,” he said. “We looked all over the Westside, but Playa Vista had a great deal to offer, and it’s quickly becoming a hot spot for technology, advertising and new media companies.”
