Mercedes-Benz USA plans to use a leased 1.1 million-square-foot former Boeing facility in Long Beach for a training center, vehicle preparation facility and its western U.S. regional office.
Larry Lukanish, a senior vice president with landlord Sares-Regis, told the Long Beach Register in a Wednesday story that the German automaker plans start moving to the 53-acre site next month.
Mercedes-Benz USA signed a 15-year lease for the property at 4501 E. Conant St. in July, but at the time did not disclose how it planned to use the site.
Mercedes currently has a regional office in Irvine and a vehicle preparation center in Carson, but a Mercedes official who confirmed the consolidation did not say whether those facilities would be closing.
The lease is considered the largest infill industrial lease in the Los Angeles area in more than 25 years, the Register said. Boeing used to make 717 commercial jets there and the building was sold to Sares-Regis in 2012.
