Less than two weeks after a fire damaged its downtown L.A. headquarters, law firm Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith agreed to move to the iconic U.S. Bank Tower building at 633 W. Fifth St.

The firm, with 275 attorneys the largest in Los Angeles, signed a short-term lease earlier this week for about 215,000 square feet at the 72-story office tower.

The firm was forced to move after an arson fire destroyed the nearby Da Vinci apartment project being developed by Geoffrey Palmer. The flames spread to the 16-story city-owned building at 221 N. Figueroa St. Lewis Brisbois has long called home.

The Lewis Brisbois lease was the largest to be signed in downtown Los Angeles this year. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but real estate data provider CoStar Inc. reported a 215,000-sqare-foot lease signed recently for $3.42 a foot in the building. City officials could not be reached for comment.

According to a statement on its website, the firm is already in the process of moving.

“We are glad to report that our Los Angeles office has begun a relocation to the U.S. Bank Tower located at 633 W. Fifth St., which will be completed very soon,” the statement read. “In the meantime, we continue to be fully operational with all legal personnel currently working from our other Southern California offices, from home or from temporary locations with 24/7 connectivity.”

Jonathan Larsen of Cassidy Turley represented the tenant in the deal, while Andrew McDonald, Peter Collins and Michael Johnson Jr. represented landlord Overseas Union Enterprise Ltd.
