Cushman & Wakefield Names Phil Brodkin LA Managing Principal
Phil Brodkin

Cushman & Wakefield Inc. has a new L.A. market lead.

Newmark Group Inc. veteran Phil Brodkin has been announced as Cushman & Wakefield’s new managing principal of L.A., where he is overseeing the Downtown, West L.A., North L.A., and South Bay areas.

Colliers International Group Inc. alum Cody Cannon, meanwhile, has been named managing principal of Orange County and the Inland Empire.

Both report to Cushman & Wakefield’s President of the West Region Dan Broderick.

“We remain committed in our effort to recruit the best and brightest talent and are so excited to welcome Phil and Cody to our team and in these important leadership roles,” Broderick said in a statement. “Greater Los Angeles is a flagship market for Cushman & Wakefield and a top priority for our firm. Collectively, Phil and Cody will focus on driving performance and ensuring we continue to deliver the best outcomes for our clients across the region.”

Brodkin officially started at Cushman & Wakefield Aug. 9.

“I took the new role because I was excited to join the Cushman & Wakefield team and firm. They are one of the top brands in the commercial real estate world,” Brodkin said. “I thought it was a great opportunity to come to Cushman and partner with all of the top people here in Los Angeles.”

Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield, Brodkin was most recently the market leader for the Los Angeles region for Newmark and the national leader of industrial and logistics services at the firm. Before joining Newmark, Brodkin served as a director of real estate from the Regus Group and as a broker at CBRE Group Inc.

He has roughly 20 years of experience, including in industrial and capital markets and is a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, the Los Angeles Commercial Realty Association and a founding member of the Lilabean Foundation for Pediatric Brain Cancer Research.

Brodkin said he is still getting to know everyone at Cushman & Wakefield but is looking at the company’s “strengths and (will) fill in where our weaknesses are.”

“It’s important for us to continue to be aggressive and grow in the capital markets platform and industrial is obviously very hot,” he said.

He added that he planned to make “strategic hires.”

“We want to make sure we are checking all the boxes and have the best teams and competitive teams and can take advantage of what is going to be a long run of strength in the industrial sector,” Brodkin said.

He added that he and Cannon would work together on recruiting and growing in the region. First, though, Brodkin said he plans to work with people already at the firm and make sure everything runs smoothly.

“Phil and Cody are outstanding professionals with strong track records of leadership and team support within the Greater Los Angeles region and across multiple services combined with strategic decision making and successful recruitment,” Broderick said in a statement. “They are both passionate, highly energetic and enthusiastic and will offer fresh ideas in leading our professionals in this market and further elevating our client services.”
