The Los Angeles Times is bringing back its California section after a five-year hiatus, the Times announced Monday.
The new section will appear in print and online and offer local, regional and state news and commentary. The section was cut in 2009 amid a worsening print advertising climate.
California will be a daily section in the Times beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 21 and will replace the LATEtxra section, which was set up in 2010 to publish late-breaking stories.
Publisher Austin Beutner told NBC News on Sunday that the new California section will provide more and deeper coverage than what is currently offered.
Beutner was scheduled to hold a staff meeting at noon on Monday to provide Times staff with further details, according to LA Observed.
