Name Change: Meruelo Maddux Properties Inc., a downtown L.A. real estate investment company, has changed its name to EVOQ (pronounced “evoke”) Properties Inc. The stock symbol of the company, which trades on the Pink Sheets, is now EVOQ.

GLENDALE
New Office: Vulcan Materials Co., a Birmingham, Ala., mining company, is moving its western region headquarters from Los Angeles, just north of Glassell Park, to Glendale. In January, Vulcan sold its 77,000-square-foot location at 3200 N. San Fernando Road for $10.3 million. It plans to move into its nearly 41,000 square feet of leased space at 500 N. Brand Blvd. in May.

Moving In: Northridge Fashion Center is expanding inside and outside with the announced addition of two restaurant tenants and an amphitheater. This fall, the mall is expected to add outposts for the La Mirada-based Elephant Bar and Irvine-based Yard House chains. The amphitheater will serve as an outdoor area for live entertainment, concerts and programs.

Manufacturing Acquisition: Anthony International, a Sylmar-based maker of glass doors and related products for the commercial refrigeration market, has acquired a majority of the assets of Big Services Inc., a Crawford, Ga., a provider of remodeling and equipment installation services. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
CALABASAS
Scrappy Deal: National Technical Systems Inc., a Calabasas provider of engineering and testing services for a range of industries including defense and automotive, has received a $1 million contract to build a mobile scrap metal-loading machine for Advanced Steel Recovery, a Fontana recycling business. The machine will handle as much as 58,000 pounds of scrap in 15 minutes.

Apartment Sale: Private investors have sold a 53-unit San Gabriel apartment complex, Rosewood Gardens, for $7.1 million. The 30,168-square-foot property, at 7117 Rosemead Blvd., consists of 51 one-bedroom, one-bathroom and two two-bedroom, one-bathroom units in three two-story buildings. Only three units were vacant at the time of sale.

Batter Up: Murad Inc., an El Segundo skin care company, has been named the official skin care partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the 2012 season. As part of the marketing partnership, the company will be providing giveaways and promotions during all daytime home games.
