DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

Contract Award: Aecom Technology Corp., a downtown L.A. engineering and management company, has been awarded two contracts worth a total of $14.1 million from the Ethiopian Electric Power Corp. Under one contract, Aecom will work on upgrading several existing substations in the African country. Under the other, the company will participate in the construction of transmission lines, new substations and upgrades to existing substations.

HOLLYWOOD

Opening Up: Canon U.S.A. Inc., a Lake Success, N.Y. digital imaging services company, has opened the Canon Hollywood Professional Technology and Support Center. The new center, on the Sunset Gower Studio lot at 6060 Sunset Blvd., was opened to better serve Canon’s area film and TV clients.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD

Services Started: Interpreting Services International Inc., a North Hollywood provider of translation and localization services, has launched its website, www.ISITrans.com. The site will allow clients to track and manage projects online.

SHERMAN OAKS

Locked Up: Lever Apartments LP has purchased a 29-unit Sherman Oaks apartment complex, the Kester House, for $5.45 million from Dart Properties. The property, at 5421 Kester Ave., is a mix of single and two-bedroom units, and was 97 percent occupied at the time of sale.

NORTH COUNTY

VALENCIA

Checkup: U.S. HealthWorks, a Valencia-based operator of occupational and urgent care centers nationwide, has acquired 11 Nashville, Tenn.-area clinics operated by Tennessee Urgent Care Associates. The move marks the company’s entry into Tennessee, and brings the total number of U.S. HealthWorks medical and worksite centers to 167 nationwide. Four of the clinics are standalone centers; seven are worksite locations.

Apartments Sale: HFH Ltd. has purchased a Downey multifamily complex for $11 million from Donald Shephard. The 74-unit apartment property, at 7841-7861 Stewart & Gray Road, was built in 1966 and has been upgraded since. It was about 95 percent leased at the time of sale.

WESTSIDE

WEST HOLLYWOOD

Apparel Store: Bravada International Ltd., an L.A.-based apparel maker specializing in women’s exercise clothes, has opened its first World of Legging retail store. The shop, at 7224 Melrose Ave. in West Hollywood, will carry more than 1,000 styles of leggings, tights, intimates, bodysuits and more.

WEST LOS ANGELES

Throw Down: ProElite Inc., a West L.A. promoter and producer of mixed martial arts matches, has signed a multiyear TV deal with HDNet Inc., a Denver-based cable channel. First up will be “HDNet Fights: ProElite – Big Guns,” which will broadcast ProElite’s Nov. 5 bouts from the iWireless Center in Moline, Ill. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. ProElite is a subsidiary of Santa Barbara’s Stratus Media Group Inc.
