SANTA CLARITA

Education Center: College of the Canyons has opened the Applied Technology Education Center, the first permanent facility at the college’s Canyon Country satellite campus in Santa Clarita. The center, at 17200 Sierra Highway, will house labs and classrooms for career programs in specializations such as plumbing, water-systems, automotive and solar.

Dropping Anchor: Cruise operator Princess Cruises has signed a 15-year lease renewal for its Santa Clarita headquarters. The lease is for 270,000 square feet of space in four buildings at Valencia Town Center. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

LOS ANGELES

Hotel Renovation: Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles LAX/Century Boulevard has completed a multimillion-dollar renovation of the lobby, guest rooms and meeting spaces. The hotel has also redesigned its Bistro restaurant and bar area.

WESTSIDE

MARINA DEL REY

Corporate Spirit: Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey hotel has been honored with the Corporate Spirit Award from Upward Bound House, a Santa Monica non-profit that provides shelter and services to homeless families with children. The hotel was selected for its support of Upward Bound House’s mission and programs.

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY

WOODLAND HILLS

New Outpost: Farmers Insurance, a Miracle Mile-based insurance company, has opened an office in Woodland Hills. The company has signed a 10-year lease to occupy eight floors at the new location, at 6303 Owensmouth Ave., where it will move more than 1,200 employees from Simi Valley.

SYLMAR

Construction Pickup: Sibley Construction Services LLC, a Sylmar-based construction company that focuses on mold removal. with an office in Lafayette, La., has been acquired by JLS Environmental Construction Science Inc., a Loomis construction company. JLS acquired Sibley to establish a presence in the Southern California market. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

VAN NUYS

Plugged In: Electro Rent Corp., a Van Nuys renter, leaser and seller of general purpose electronic test equipment and other products, has acquired Equipment Management Technology Inc., Las Vegas electronic test equipment company. Electro paid $10.7 million to by EMT out of bankruptcy. The move will expand Electro Rent’s rental inventory and customer base.
