Chief Executive, Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Michael Govan became chief executive of LACMA in April 2006. Formerly president and director of Dia Art Foundation and deputy director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Govan is the seventh director in LACMA’s history. LACMA, the largest art museum in the Western United States, has a collection that includes nearly 130,000 objects dating from antiquity to the present. Govan has overseen the transformation of its 20-acre campus, with buildings by Renzo Piano and monumental artwork by Chris Burden, Michael Heizer, Robert Irwin, and Barbara Kruger, among others.
