John Paul DeJoria, who was once homeless, is now one of America’s most acclaimed entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and pillars of the business community. In 1980, he partnered with friend Paul Mitchell to launch the Paul Mitchell hair care products company. The company has an estimated $1 billion in annual revenue. It was the first professional beauty company to stand up against animal testing. DeJoria also co-founded Patron Spirits Co., was given a seat on the New York Stock Exchange, and has been honored for his work to help the homeless. In 2011, DeJoria signed Bill Gates and Warren Buffet’s Giving Pledge, a vow to donate most of his wealth to philanthropic causes.
