Fernando J. Guerra has been on the faculty at Loyola Marymount since 1984. He is a professor of political science and Chicana/o studies and director of the university’s Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles. Guerra earned his Ph.D. and master’s in political science from the University of Michigan. He earned his bachelor’s in international relations, with a university certificate in Latin American studies, from USC in 1980. Guerra was born and raised in the northeast section of Los Angeles, where he attended Franklin High School.
