Alex Meruelo

Chairman and Chief Executive, Meruelo Group

Alex Meruelo is chairman and chief executive of Meruelo Group. In 1986, he founded La Pizza Loca, a quick-service restaurant catering to the Latino community, expanding it to more than 50 franchised and company-owned outlets. Real estate development soon followed, and his Meruelo Group now has a diversified portfolio of commercial-retail, residential, and industrial properties. Meruelo Group has interests in construction, engineering, hospitality, gaming, TV, radio, real estate, food services, and private equity. He is a founding shareholder and director of Commercial Bank of California, and is a venture capital and angel investor as well as an activist shareholder and investor in public companies.
