Ron S. Galperin

City Controller, City of Los Angeles

Ron Galperin was elected city controller for Los Angeles in 2013. He is the first Neighborhood Council member elected to citywide office in the city. Prior to his election, Galperin built a reputation as a leading voice for government reform and spent 20 years as a transactional and litigation attorney and small-business owner. As chairman of the Los Angeles City Commission on Revenue Efficiency, Galperin found new revenue sources and budget savings, both of which could be used to deliver more city services to residents. He has served on the Los Angeles City Human Relations Commission’s LGBT committee and the Neighborhood Council LGBT Caucus. He has been an active supporter of Equality California, the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, and other organizations.

Enjoy most: Just about everything having to do with my job.

Toughest challenge: Coming from the private sector to city government, I’ve had to learn to navigate and overcome a lot of the bureaucracy. It’s both a challenge and an opportunity.

Proudest moment: When I suggested we put the city’s financials on our website for everyone to see.

Best advice: Follow your passion and do your homework.

Most excited: Los Angeles has nearly limitless opportunity to be the best place to live, to work, and to visit.

Fun fact: I once took a UCLA class on putting together a nightclub act.

Beverage: Coconut water.

Alma Maters: Washington University; JD, Loyola Law School.

Hobby/passion: I have a love of architecture and art.

Favorite destination: Ever-changing; wherever my next trip will be.
