If you were able, would you hire contract workers instead of full-timers?
ANDREA ROBINSON
Director
ARC Sustainability
Our work is largely project based, so our contractors are key for us. We are lucky enough to have a core team of contractors who return to work on ARC Sustainability’s projects again and again.

I have and love a mix of both. There is nothing like being surrounded daily by a dedicated group of men and women helping drive your goals and visions for the business forward. But I have found that for some more specialized positions some of the best are independent contractors and consultants.

Full-timers. It’s hard to build and cultivate a culture and loyalty with people working at a distance.

It depends on the position. Both classifications can work for different positions within the same company. There might be circumstances around why it would be better for a company to use one or the other. Business just need to remain open – so long as it is all fair trade and both parties are happy with the arrangement.

Full-timers. As an early-stage company, I think it’s really important to have everyone’s
full commitment. When you’re doing something innovative or different you need a whole
bunch of brainstorming, and brainstorming
doesn’t happen at certain hours of
the day.
