VCA Antech Inc. said Wednesday that it has acquired Eklin Medical Systems Inc., a Santa Clara maker of digital radiology, ultrasound and practice management software for the veterinary market.
The Los Angeles veterinary hospital chain, which launched its own medical technology business with the 2004 acquisition of Sound Technologies, said the addition of Eklin would make VCA Antech the largest supplier of such products to the veterinary market.
“We believe that joining these two entities together will create a significant technology advantage,” said Chief Executive Bob Antin in a statement.
Elkin Chief Executive Gary Cantu will be leaving the company, and Sound Technologies’ head Steve Eyl will serve as president of the merged Sound Elkin unit, VCA Antech said.
Prior to the announcement, VCA Antech shares close down 25 cents, or 1 percent, to $26.45 on the Nasdaq.
