Business and civic leader Bruce Ackerman, who for the last two decades championed the economic revival of the San Fernando Valley, died Thursday after a struggle with cancer. He was 64.
Ackerman, a co-founder and head of the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley, was a popular figure in the region.
Former Mayor James Hahn and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa both called on Ackerman for counsel on economic matters, formally serving both of them as an adviser.
