Toys made by Mattel Inc. are selling “well” at Toys “R” Us Inc. stores, the retailer’s chief executive officer said in an interview Friday with Bloomberg News.
“They’ve been doing quite well,” Toys “R” Us Chief Executive Gerald Storch said in an interview. “If the product is hot, something like Elmo, then it sells great. If the product is not hot, it doesn’t.”
The El Segundo-based toymaker has recalled more than 21 million toys due to lead paint contamination and had many investors spooked that consumers would avoid buying the company’s toys out of concern for further recalls.
Shares in Mattel closed up 2.6 percent to $20.47 in a shortened trading session Friday on the New York Stock Exchange.
