Teledyne Technologies Raises First Quarter, Full-Year Outlook

Teledyne Technologies Inc. on Wednesday raised its outlook for first-quarter and full-year 2005 earnings per share, citing favorable timing on some military contracts.

The L.A.-based electronic components maker said it expects first-quarter earnings of about 37 cents to 40 cents per share, compared with a previous projection of 30 cents to 33 cents. It anticipated 2005 earnings to be in the range of $1.35 to $1.43 per share, up from the previous range $1.30 to $1.40.

The company said the revised outlook is based on expectations that revenue in its systems engineering segment will peak in the first quarter, due to favorable timing on certain chemical weapons demilitarization programs and the company’s systems engineering and technical assistance contract with the U.S. Army.

Meanwhile, Teledyne said revenues in its energy systems segment and its military turbine engine business are expected to decline in the second half of 2005 from the second half of 2004.

Teledyne shares rose 73 cents, or 2.3 percent to $32.06 in afternoon trading on Wednesday.
