TEE & CUE

Manufacturer:

Beasley Creations Inc., Torrance

Description:

A tabletop golf game played with balls and cues.

Price:

$496 for an Original Golf & Billiards Combo Table

Clyde Beasley invented the game while serving 10 years in prison for selling drugs. He wondered what golfers do for fun when bad weather keeps them off the links.

The novelty of the game has attracted the attention of the producers of “The Price is Right” (it’s been featured eight times) and the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association, which named it one of five new top products for 2005.

The game is played on a combination table that can be flipped to play conventional billiards on the other side. The golf side of the table has 13 holes and is decorated with tiny fake trees, ponds and a sand trap. Regular cues are used, but the balls are slightly smaller than conventional billiard balls. The object of the game is to be first to sink a putt in the final hole.

The game is sold on the company’s Web site and will be available on the Sam’s Club Web site within a few weeks.

IN VISION LD 3-D PRINTER

Manufacturer:

3D Systems, Valencia

Description:

Entry-level desktop machine that prints out three-dimensional plastic shapes, used in a variety of industries

Price:

$22,900

The new entry-level InVision LD 3-D printer from 3D Systems converts a design displayed on a computer screen into a plastic three-dimensional model. Developed by an Israel-based company named Solidimensions and distributed by 3D Systems, the InVision LD 3-D is a cheaper, desktop version of two other models that can cost up to $60,000.

The InVision LD 3-D shoots out plastic sheets, one layer at a time, which are then cut by an automated knife and stacked to create a solid model. The printer is for the design stage between initial concept and more sophisticated rapid prototyping, and allows low-cost and rapid evaluation of a product idea.
