Stocks rose moderately Tuesday as investors welcomed a tame inflation report but still worried about the potential consequences of a surge in oil prices to a new intraday high.
In late morning trading, the Dow Jones industrial average gained 64.19, or 0.6 percent, to 11,137.97. Broader stock indicators also advanced. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose 7.08, or 0.6 percent, to 1,292.41, and the Nasdaq composite index rose 12.47, or 0.5 percent, to 2,323.63.
