Home foreclosures last month more than doubled in California as well as in Los Angeles County, according to figures released Thursday.
Los Angeles County saw a 144 percent hike in foreclosures year-over-year with 9,648 foreclosure filings in February, according to RealtyTrac. That’s one filing for every 346 homes. However, that was an 18 percent decline from January.
California registered the nation’s second highest foreclosure rate in February, with one in every 242 households receiving a foreclosure filing during the month for a total of 53,629 a 131 percent increase from February of 2007.
California was beat only by Nevada, which continued to have the highest rate with one in every 165 households receiving a foreclosure filing last month, according to RealtyTrac.
