Rick Caruso is a real estate innovator, civic leader, and philanthropist. He is founder and chief executive of Caruso, the privately held development company behind The Grove, Americana at Brand, the Commons at Calabasas, Promenade at Westlake, Waterside at Marina del Rey and two soon-to-open projects – Palisades Village in the Pacific Palisades and the Miramar Montecito Beach, a five-star resort in Santa Barbara County. Caruso is known for rethinking shopping malls as mixed-use destinations that serve as town centers. The Grove is ranked No. 2 for sales per square foot in the United States by Green Street Advisors. Americana at Brand is ranked in the top 15 for sales per square foot by the ICSC. The firm’s portfolio also features luxury residential property 8500 Burton Way, and the restored Masonic Temple office building in Glendale. The USC alumnus was recently elected chairman of the USC Board of Trustees and will lead a search for a replacement for President Max Nikias. He also is overseeing a university investigation into the alleged misconduct that occurred at a student health center and reporting failures by the school.
