Official OK: The Los Angeles City Council has approved the Vermont, a 464-apartment high-rise with ground-floor retail. The approval clears the way for Miracle Mile-based developer J.H. Snyder Co. to begin construction on the long-vacant parcel at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Vermont Avenue.

Island Project: Aecom Technology Corp., a downtown L.A.-based provider of technical and management services to the transportation, energy, water and government sectors, has won a contract from the Hong Kong regional government for the design and construction management of the Liantan-Heung Wai Boundary Control Point, an almost 7-mile, two-lane truck road. Aecom’s fees will be approximately $13 million.

Gathered Up: CrowdGather, a Woodland Hills company that operates 65,000 online forums on topics ranging from technology to hobbies to parenting, has acquired Pocketables.net, a Honolulu-based network of sites that covers mobile computers, mobile web devices and other handheld gadgets. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
New HQ: CNM LLP, an accounting services firm, has moved its Woodland Hills headquarters. CNM’s new address is 21051 Warner Center Lane. The firm was previously at 6300 Canoga Ave.

Checked In: Community Hospital of Long Beach has joined Fountain Valley-based MemorialCare Health System as the chain’s sixth hospital in Los Angeles and Orange counties and its third in Long Beach. Terms of the transaction include MemorialCare assuming the lease from the city of Long Beach for the Community campus, which includes the hospital and a medical office building.

Inn Upgrades: Best Western Executive Inn in Rowland Heights has been renamed Best Western Plus Executive Inn after earning the “Best Western Plus” label from the Phoenix-based hotel chain. The Rowland Heights inn qualified for the “Plus” after upgrading its amenities under the direction of General Manager Jovy Cheng.

Table Is Set: Brand Sense Partners LLC, a Culver City brand management firm, has signed an exclusive agreement with Oneida Ltd., an Oneida, N.Y-based maker of stainless steel flatware and dinnerware. Brand Sense and Oneida will expand Oneida’s brand into other products for the home.
