DEL REY

Housing Project: Thomas Safran & Associates has bought four parcels of vacant land in Del Rey from Elins Development Co. for $10 million. The land, at 11904-11976 Culver Blvd., covers 1.3 acres and will be used for an affordable housing development.


WESTWOOD

Under Observation: Zynx Health, a medical information services business, has been named to the “30 to Watch” list of research and advisory firm Outsell Inc.’s. The list features companies that Outsell staff workers believe will have an impact on the information services industry.


CENTURY CITY

Lawful Trio: Commercial litigation firm Reeder Lu & Green LLP has opened in Century City. The name partners are Christopher Reeder, Beverly Lu and Gabriel Green. Also in the firm are special counsel Ronald Reynolds, and associates Christopher Hendricks and Jennifer Keh.

VAN NUYS

Reason to Smile: Dentist Joseph Sinai’s Haynes Medical Building LLC has purchased a Van Nuys office building from a private investor for $3.4 million. Sinai plans to use the ground floor of the building, at 14550-14602 Haynes St., for his dental practice and rent out the other two floors.

Office Acquisition: The Los Angeles Housing Authority has bought a Van Nuys office building for $3.5 million from VTN West Inc. The Housing Authority will continue to occupy the first floor of the 22,156-square-foot property, at 6946 Van Nuys Blvd.


CENTRAL AREA


FLORENCE

Store Stuff: Salt Lake City-based Extra Space Storage Inc. has opened a facility in Florence. The building, at 6033 South Central Ave., contains 685 units, ranging from 20 to 300 square feet. Units are rented monthly.


DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

Checking Out: Namco Capital Group Inc. has sold the Motel De Ville for $6.3 million to a private investment firm. The downtown L.A. motel, at 1123 W. Seventh St., was built in 1964 and has 63 rooms.


HOLLYWOOD

Good Fit: Film and entertainment marketing company Red Rock Pictures Holdings Inc. has reached a deal with fitness expert Greg Plitt to endorse and promote the Meta Ball exercise product, which is marketed by Red Rock. Plitt will appear in a 30-minute infomercial and series of exercise videos.


TRI-CITIES


PASADENA

Looking Up: Caltech has opened its Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics at its Pasadena campus. The $50 million,

100,000-square-foot center was designed by L.A. architect Thom Mayne.


SAN GABRIEL VALLEY


MONROVIA

Taking Flight: Monrovia-based aeronautics manufacturing company

AeroVironment Inc. has received a $17 million contract from the U.S. Army to upgrade the digital data link for the unmanned Raven aircraft. The Raven is a hand-launched aircraft with a wingspan of 4.5 feet, and is used by the military for low-altitude surveillance and reconnaissance. The AeroVironment contract is expected to run through October 2010.


LA VERNE

Warehouse Deal: Design International has purchased a warehouse building in La Verne for $2.3 million from owners Guang Hu and Shuning Liu. The 15,928-square-foot property, at 1760 Yeager Ave., was built in 2002.

LA MIRADA

Industrial Space: Garfield Industries Inc. has acquired a La Mirada industrial property for $5.4 million from Gibbs Family LP. Garfield will occupy the 58,836-square-foot building, at 15915 Canary Ave., as sole tenant and as owner-user.


AIRPORT AREA


LAX

Gone Fishin’: Bethesda, Md.- based HMS Host Corp. has opened a branch of seafood restaurant Gladstone’s at Los Angeles International Airport. The new eatery, Gladstone’s first at an airport, is located in Terminal 3.
