Retail Sale: Manchester Brakes, a 2,350-square-foot retail property at 8606 S. Third Ave., was sold for $459,000. The buyer and seller were undisclosed.

Bio-Energy Acquisition: Rentech Inc., an alternative energy development company, has completed the acquisition of SilvaGas Corp. and its commercial-scale biomass gas technology. Integration of the SilvaGas technology with its own processes will allow conversion of renewable plant matter, or “feedstock,” into clean diesel fuel, jet fuel and electric power with minimal carbon emissions.

Three-Way Alliance: RFPR Inc., a Los Angeles-based public relations and marketing firm, has formed a team with event production firm ItGirl Public Relations, and production and artist representation company Something Kreative. All three companies are in the same Los Angeles office building and will be offering media presence and brand development expertise to clients.

Hispanic Website: Hyland’s Inc., a provider of natural over-the-counter medicines, has launched Comienzos Saludables.com, a social networking, education-based Web site for Latina mothers. Comienzos Saludables offers a fully bilingual Spanish/English community.

Affordable Housing: Rosslyn Lofts has opened over 250 affordable “micro-lofts” intended for the city’s downtown workforce. The units will be rented to households earning between 35 percent and 60 percent of the Los Angeles area’s median income. The lofts are in a converted building at 451 S. Main St., known as the “Rosslyn Million Dollar Fireproof Hotel” and featured in many films.

Center Sold: The Independence Square retail center at 8530 Long Beach Blvd. sold for $3.45 million. The seller and buyer of the 21,290-square-foot center were undisclosed.

Office Lease: Ballard Rosenberg Golper & Savitt LLP has leased office space from CB Richard Ellis Investors-Strategic Partners. The lease is for 15,943 square feet of office space at 500 N. Brand.
Italian Eatery: Trattoria Amici has opened a location at Americana at Brand in Glendale. The addition of the Italian eatery brings the mall’s restaurant collection to 20. Piero Topputo, who began his career at Toscana in Brentwood, is executive chef.

Apartment Pickup: Camarillo Mountain View LLC has purchased a 106-unit apartment complex for $14 million. The seller of the complex, Mountain View Apartments at 659 Las Posas Road, was Essex Portfolio Properties.
