Accounting

Rex Vollmer has been promoted to senior in Singer Lewak Greenbaum & Goldstein LLP’s accounting and auditing department. Prior to joining SLGG, he worked in private industry. In addition, Jane Hautman and James Foster have been appointed senior consultants at the Los Angeles office of the newly established SLGG Consulting Group.

Architecture

Steven Patrick Kyle, Joe Fontanilla, Pat Whempner and Marius Nimitz have joined the Los Angeles office of RTKL Associates Inc. as senior architectural designers. Kyle previously was vice president with Architects Pacifica Ltd. Prior to joining RTKL, Fontanilla was architect designer for the Nadel Partership Inc. in Los Angeles. Whempner previously was a principal of her own firm, Pat Whempner Design, and Nimitz was a project designer with Jerde Partnership International Inc.

Cheryl T. Miller has been promoted from vice president to partner at the Los Angeles-based architectural firm formerly known as Stanley M. Brent A.I.A. The firm has been re-named Brent & Miller A.I.A. Architectural Corp.

Jay Mock has been promoted to director of information systems for MCG Architects. Mock has been a designer in the firm’s Pasadena office for the past 15 years.

David L. Noferi has joined the Los Angeles offices of SMP/SHG as director of health care projects and office operations. He is bringing in an expansion project for The City of Hope and will work on the firm’s ongoing projects at Little Company of Mary, Citrus Valley and UCLA.

Aviation

David C. Miller has joined Mercury Air Center’s Fixed Base Operation in Burbank as general manager. Miller was most recently the manager of Garrett Aviation Services FBO in Los Angeles.

Banking

Glenn Harvey has been appointed senior vice president in Imperial Bank’s syndicated finance division in Los Angeles. In his new position, Harvey is responsible for selling portions of Imperial’s loan facilities to other banks and managing relationships with potential syndicate member banks. Prior to joining Imperial, Harvey was vice president for Credit Lyonnais in Los Angeles.

Alex Illes, vice president and business development officer of Imperial Bancorp’s small-business lending division, has transferred to Imperial’s Crown American Bank to head up its Encino office. Prior to joining Imperial Bank in 1996, Illes served as senior vice president of the Bank of San Pedro in California. In addition, Crown American Bank has appointed Girish Bajaj, Neil S. Sokoler and Scott E. Muir first vice presidents and business development officers.

Entertainment

Susan Cleary has joined the American Film Marketing Association as director of legal affairs, a newly created position. Cleary was previously associate counsel in the international legal department of the Motion Picture Association.

Paul Lenburg has been appointed to the newly created position of executive vice president of ASIE network research and analysis, a new division of ASI Entertainment LLC. Since joining the company in 1976, Lenburg has provided research and counsel for broadcast and cable networks, studios, producers, advertisers and local television stations, among others. In addition, Guy Duff has been named to the newly created position of chief technology officer for the ASIE nationwide technology group. Duff previously served as director of information technology.

Stephanie Love has been promoted to senior vice president of planning for Paramount Pictures. Love will be responsible for financial and strategic planning and business development for Paramount Pictures’ motion picture and television groups. Previously, she was vice president of planning for the TV group.

Law

Chuck L. Crouch III joins Perkins Coie LLP as a partner, leading the corporate finance practice in the Los Angeles office. Crouch was the partner-in-charge at the Los Angeles office of his previous firm before joining Perkins Coie.

Roger E. Marken and Charles R. Diaz have joined the Los Angeles office of Arter & Hadden LLP. They will become part of the firm’s insurance group. Marken, joining the firm as partner, was previously with Ives, Kirwan & Dibble , where his practice concentrated on insurance, business litigation, and general liability defense. Diaz, joining as of counsel, was also previously with Ives, Kirwan & Dibble, where his practice concentrated on insurance, business litigation and general liability defense.

Dahni Tsuboi has been elected a principal of Los Angeles-based Tuttle & Taylor, where she will continue her specialization in employment law and general business litigation.

Media

Bonnie Guiton Hill has been named to the new position of senior vice president of community relations for the Los Angeles Times. In addition, the Times has announced three senior executive appointments: William R. Isinger, the newspaper’s senior vice president of finance, has been named assistant to the president and chief executive. Richard W. Stanton, who had been in that post, was named senior vice president and chief financial officer. Julie K. Xanders, deputy general counsel for Times Mirror, has been promoted to senior vice president and general counsel.

Thomasine Lewis has been appointed editor-at-large at Teen magazine. Lewis previously was the executive editor of Live!, a defunct entertainment publication she helped to launch in 1995.

Public Relations

Sandra Sternberg has been named senior vice president, partner and general manager of the Los Angeles office of Fleishman-Hillard Inc. She previously was managing director with Sitrick & Co.

Laurie Trainor has joined the Los Angeles office of News/Broadcast Network Inc. as an account supervisor. She was formerly a principal with Media Access Inc., a public relations firm specializing in national communications campaigns and issue-oriented public relations.

Real Estate

Philip T. Fitzgerald has joined Los Angeles-based William E. Simon & Sons Realty as a vice president. Fitzgerald was a founding partner of Griffin Capital, a firm primarily engaged in orienting, structuring and distributing debt and equity securities for real estate and related transactions.

Michael C. Thom has joined the newly formed The Group based in Beverly Hills as a partner in charge of the acquisition and brokerage division. Previously, Thom was a senior analyst for R & B; Commercial Real Estate Services. In addition, Steven M. Foonberg has joined The Group as partner in charge of the asset management division. Foonberg previously was chief financial officer for Hamiltons International, where he was responsible for Hamiltons Las Vegas at New York and New York Hotel & Casino.

Chris Nobuyuki Yamada has joined the Los Angeles office of Sonnenblick-Goldman Co. as senior vice president. Yamada will be responsible for maintaining and establishing relationships with Asian investors who own real estate or have loans on U.S. and foreign real estate assets. Previously, he was an executive vice president with Mitsui Real Estate Sales U.S.A. Co. Ltd.

Retail

Phillip E. Hawkins has been appointed president and chief operating officer of Los Angeles-based Smart & Final. He will oversee the company’s 214 warehouse grocery stores and two foodservice delivery businesses. Hawkins previously was the president, chief executive and chief operating officer of the Penn Traffic Co.

Utilities

Shelley Farnham joins Southwest Water as vice president of human resources. Most recently, Farnham served as lead human resources consultant at Atlantic Richfield Co.
