The Rosen Group has promoted Ryan Croy from account executive to vice president and head of the company’s new West Coast office in Santa Monica.

Architecture

Ken Bavaro has been hired as regional director for western U.S. operations of Humphrey & Partners Architects L.P., leading the Los Angeles office. Bavaro was previously with the Hnedak Bobo Group.

Anshen + Allen Los Angeles has named architects Jorge de la Cal, James Simeo, Kelly Locke and Will Longyear as senior associates and promoted staff members Michael Cranfill, Michael Levendusky, Jennifer Myers and Diane Stayton to associate.

Banking

City National Bank has hired Anthony M. Fahr as senior vice president and manager of its government-lending department. Previously, Fahr worked at Valley Bank in Moreno Valley.

Education

California State University, Los Angeles has named Thomas Sayles and George Ramirez to the Pat Brown Institute’s Board of Advisors. Sayles is vice president of governmental and community affairs for Sempra Energy and Ramirez is senior vice president and division executive for the community banking and investment services group at Union Bank of California.

Kaplan English Programs has named Julie Punty director and Kristy Marshall operations manager of its workplace English programs division. Marshall most recently managed Kaplan’s Northwest territory for K-12 programs and Punty was practice manager with Siebel Systems Inc.

Entertainment

Dennis Rice has been named senior vice president, publicity, at Buena Vista Pictures Marketing and Heidi Trotta has been promoted to senior vice president, communications, at Walt Disney Studios. Previously, Rice was founder and president of Entertainment Marketing and Licensing Inc. Trotta has been director of publicity, advertising and promotions for Walt Disney and Touchstone Television since 1990.

Creative Artists Agency has hired Seamus Blackley to help represent video game creators in deals with game publishers, film and television studios and networks, and to build and service client development companies. Previously at Microsoft Corp., Blackley wrote the initial proposal for Xbox and led the technical design team for the game platform. Blackley is also a former DreamWorks Interactive executive.

Events

Tyler Thurlow has been named event supervisor at Aztec Tents & Events. Before joining Aztec, Thurlow was an advertising and sales representative for TBS/TNT television.

Financial Services

Jeff Kiley has joined the Los Angeles office of Credit Suisse First Boston’s private client services group as branch manager and managing director. Previously, Kiley ran his own money management firm, Pacific High Growth Equities Pacific Biopharmaceutical Fund LP, a health care investment partnership and hedge fund. Kiley replaces Anthony Chidoni, who has retired.

David Lewis Co., which provides financial executives for temporary projects, has hired Boyd Quinnell as a member of its manufacturing operations finance and SAP financial systems support and implementation teams, Julie Holmes as a member of its business process and procedure team, and Lisa Carlin as a member of the financial reporting and accounting team. Previously, Quinnell was division controller at LSI Logic, Holmes was a senior manager at Deloitte & Touche and Carlin was an assistant controller at Worldwide Restaurant Concepts.

KPMG LLP has made Susan King, Jerry D. Panzer and Bernhard von Thaden partners. King works in audit and risk-advisory services for retail and manufacturing clients, Panzer is partner in charge of Southern California merger and acquisition services and von Thaden provides tax and economic services to corporate clients in the Southwest.

Marsh has promoted Karen Mildenhall to managing director, national practice leader for the middle market division, Julie Umphries to managing director, global entertainment practice leader and Stephen Kempsey to managing director, leader of the financial and professional practice.

Food Services

Directors of Unified Western Grocers Inc., a wholesale grocery cooperative, have elected Philip S. Smith executive vice president and chief marketing/procurement officer. Smith has worked with the company since 1994, most recently as senior vice president, procurement.

Law

Manatt Phelps & Phillips LLP has hired Brian S. Kelly as a partner practicing in intellectual property, technology and e-commerce law. Before joining Manatt, Kelly was a partner at Fenwick & West in Washington, D.C.

Manufacturing

Bell Industries Inc. named its chief financial officer, Russell A. Doll, as president of the company’s largest operating unit, Bell Tech.logix. Doll joined Bell Industries in 1998 and has been chief financial officer since 1999. Bell Industries Chairman, President and Chief Executive Tracy A. Edwards will assume Doll’s responsibilities as chief financial officer.
