They bought the Dodgers, they’re buying into the new Staples Center, and they’re interested in a piece of both the Lakers and Kings. Plus, there’s that little network sports operation over on the Westside.

In short, Fox Sports seems to be everywhere, and in preparing a special report on L.A. sports, the Rupert Murdoch-led group was a natural subject. This week’s package covers all the bases (ouch!), from plans for the Dodgers to assessing Murdoch’s sports vision to comparing Fox with that other sports/media titan, Disney.

When discussing the Fox juggernaut, we emphasize L.A. not only because of the Dodgers connection but because the entire network is based here. It’s a fascinating story now and and for the future.

On another front, I’m pleased to report that the Business Journal picked up two Los Angeles Press Club Awards last week one for 1997’s annual Richest Angelenos issue and another for the Koreatown/China Valley series. I want to congratulate our staff yet again for their continued success.
