Of all the changes we’ve made at the Business Journal over the last two years or so, the LABJ 100 stock index has been especially well received. Expanding the index of locally based stocks from 50 to 100 and adding new features that outline the week’s biggest gainers and losers as well as comparing the LABJ index with the Dow and S & P; 500 provide Business Journal readers with an easy-to-read snapshot of market activity.
This week, we’re making some refinements. Working with the folks over at Duff & Phelps, which compiles the data each week, we are adding 17 new companies to the index and dropping 17. The additions include a number of small- to mid-cap companies that better reflect the area’s economy, while the subtractions are companies with low trading volume, a diminished market cap or a low share price. (The list of changes is on page 33.)
I am grateful to Greg Range, James Heczko, Marissa Jaramillo and Andrey Kalashnikov over at Duff & Phelps for all their work in bringing us the LABJ 100 each week as well as to Deputy Managing Editor Mike Stremfel for coordinating the project.
