Live Nation Inc. plans to sell tickets to its concerts and live events through a program on the popular social networking Web site Facebook.com.
The Beverly Hills-based live entertainment venue operator and record label said the “My Live Nation” program on Facebook will enable users to browse for and buy tickets to Live Nation events from their Facebook profiles.
Users also can link their music collections to Live Nation to get personalized updates and recommendations based on their listening habits, Live Nation said in a release Thursday morning.
This is one of several initiatives from Live Nation to expand its reach into the music business. In the past few months, the company has inked two major recording artists (Madonna and rapper Jay Z) to record deals, has acquired a handful of merchandising companies and has plans to start its own ticketing agency once its deal with Ticketmaster expires next year.
Shares in Live Nation were up 2.4 percent to $15.37 in early trading Thursday.
