Of all the up-and-comers in all of L.A., how did we happen to settle on the 25 who are profiled in this week’s issue? First off, we recognize that our selections reflect more of a sampling than a declarative statement. Let’s face it, there are more than 25 up and comers in Los Angeles.
The process began several weeks ago with input from our editors and reporters on names of folks they’ve come across not people who make lots of headlines, mind you, but those who are just emerging as key players in L.A.
With a list of candidates, our senior editors met in my office, and we basically winnowed it down to 25 (with about five stand-bys in case any of the 25 fell off). Amazingly, not everyone selected wanted to participate; most of them got on anyway with or without their cooperation.
The point was to generate a list that we believe to be honest rather than one based on people who happen to have good P.R. firms.
