L.A. Regains Gas-Price Title

The Los Angeles-area has regained the dubious distinction of having the highest average gas price in the nation, according to the Energy Information Association.

Despite a drop in the average national price for a gallon of gas, the L.A area was one of only four major areas in the weekly EIA survey to see an increase in prices. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles Area was $3.248 for the week ended August 14, up 1.6 cents from the previous week. The national average is right at $3, down 3.8 cents from the previous week.

L.A. prices are 51 cents higher than they were a year ago and statewide the average price was $ 3.21, up 1.9 cents from the previous week and up 49 cents from a year ago.

Nationwide, Seattle, San Francisco and Miami joined L.A. as the only metropolitan areas out of 10 surveyed to see increases. Houston actually saw a 3.8 cent drop. California was the most expensive state and Ohio, with an average of $2.859, replaced Texas ($2.87) as the state with the cheapest gas, an honor the Lone Star state has held for several months.
