The average gallon of self-serve regular in the Los Angeles area jumped more than 11 cents to $2.736 from the previous week’s $2.622, according to the federal Energy Information Administration.
The 11.4 cent surge for the week ended Aug. 15 brings prices to 68.5 cents higher than they were a year ago.
Statewide, prices rose to $2.716 from $2.601 over the week, 66.1 cents higher than year-ago rates.
California still had the highest gas prices in the nation, and San Francisco outpaced L.A. as the priciest city for the eighth week in a row. San Francisco rose 12.3 cents to $2.762.
Colorado was the lowest-priced state, at $2.457 per gallon, and the city with cheapest gas was Denver, which gained 16.1 cents to $2.444 per gallon.
