L.A. gasoline prices slumped for the tenth straight week, and conditions appear bright for the trend to continue through the New Year’s holiday, said the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area fell 7.4 cents to $2.348 on Friday from $2.422 one week ago. The price was $2.683 per gallon one month ago and $2.199 one year prior. Prices haven’t hit a new record high since Sept. 6.

“”Although prices are beginning to bottom out in other parts of the country, our prices continue downward, due to lower seasonal demand,” Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp said. “For the rest of the month, California motorists can anticipate steadily falling pump prices.”

The Orange County area had the lowest average price in Southern California, dipping 6.8 cents to $2.323. The Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc area had the highest gas price, falling 6.7 cents to $2.489.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline each Friday.
